

David Timothy Tim Flaherty died April 30, 2014 at his home in Longmont of natural causes. He was 61 years old.He was born July 1, 1952 in Spring Valley, Illinois to Dale Joseph and Jeanne Carol (Smith) Flaherty. He graduated from Conant High School in Hoffman Estates, Ill., class of 1970.On August 22, 1998 at Lake Dillon, CO Tim married Melynda Slaughter. They made their home in Big Elk Meadows for several years, but were moved out by the Sept. 2013 flood, and located to Longmont.Tim was an instrument maker, crafting and building space flight hardware at LASP (Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics) at CU Boulder from Aug 2004 to the present. He has been part of many NASA satellite projects and has made significant contributions to flight hardware currently on board space craft orbiting Earth and Mercury and on the way to Pluto. Tim had previously worked at EMP and B & B Machining.Tim was a sponsor and mentor to students at the Fairview High School robotics team. He devoted much time and passion to the students in this project.He is remembered as a kind, generous and warm hearted man, who cared deeply for family, friends and co-workers. Tim was proud of his Irish heritage.Tim is preceded in death by his mother and one brother, Danny Flaherty.He is survived by his wife Melynda Slaughter-Flaherty, daughter Kierstyn Flaherty both of Longmont, his father Dale Flaherty of Hoffman Estates, Ill and two sisters Clare Jacobsen and Leah Iverson.A Celebration of his life will take place at 11:00am Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Community House at Chautauqua Park, 900 W. Baseline Ave, Boulder. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
