Pittsfield, IL, to Rufus and Lena Capps. He had one older
brother, Granville “Bud”. He grew up on a pig farm, was big in
FFA. He met Joanne Haakenson at a church convention in
Black Hills, South Dakota, and he and his brother would drive
together up to North Dakota to visit their girlfriends who
would later become their wives.
He married young and he and Joanne had three daughters:
Marie Adelle, Marilyn Margaret, and Susan Michelle. His
primary profession was welding throughout the years,
including working for Rocky Flats as a welder and foreman. He
also worked in construction for many years.
He learned to fish from his father in law and had a great love
for hunting and fishing. In recent years, he enjoyed an annual
fishing trip to Alaska. He loved sports and would follow all the
local high school sports and played racket ball for years.
He will be remembered for making eggs at Elizabeth
convention and having Sunday morning meeting in his home
for many years. Two of his daughters and a granddaughter
were married in his living room. No one could outwit him at
Aggravation, he played the harmonica, loved bluegrass music,
and could be found out on his boat fishing any chance he got.
He loved gardening and always had a bag of sunflower seeds
in his truck.
Those who knew and loved him will remember him as a kind
and generous man whose home was a refuge to many.
