Darcy Sease died at home surrounded by family on December 15 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Darcy and twin sister, Anne, were born on Feb. 25, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri to Frank Searle and Hazel Brown Radcliffe. Darcy and Anne were later joined by sisters Margaret and Karen. The family ultimately located in Moline, Illinois and had the honor of being designated a “Wonder Bread Family” at one point during Darcy’s childhood.
Darcy graduated from Moline High School in 1953 and went on to Iowa State University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics. She also spent a semester at the Sorbonne University in France. Following graduation, she became a physical education and home economics teacher in Sterling, Illinois.
Darcy moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1965, where she obtained her Master’s Degree in Counseling and Guidance at the University of Colorado.
She married the love of her life, William Andrew Sease, on December 26, 1972. She also gained her stepchildren, Cindy and Jeff Sease, and a lifelong love was forged.
She was granted a PhD in Education from the University of Colorado in 1979.
Darcy served as Director of the Women’s Center at the University of Colorado from 1970 – 1977. From 1978 until her retirement in 1999, Darcy served as Associate Director of the Multi-Cultural Center from Counseling and Community Development and then as Director of Counseling and Psychological Services: a Multicultural Center.
During her career, she started the peer counseling program for undergraduates and helped to develop the orientation program for the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Business and Administration. She also created a parent’s newsletter entitled “Parents and Campus.” She was a champion for her staff and the students. She led quietly, with compassion and dignity. Upon her retirement, a tree was planted in her honor at Willard Hall.
Following retirement, she continued to consult with Counseling and Psychological Services to create a student development model.
Following her husband’s death in 2005, Darcy began volunteering weekly at Tru Community Hospice Care. She continued her volunteer work until the time of her death.
Darcy was an accomplished artist. Her medium was watercolor, and she gifted family members and friends with beautiful paintings through the years.
She also maintained a fabulous rose garden for over 50 years, showcasing over 60 varieties of beautiful roses. She battled slugs, Japanese beetles and vicious squirrels every year, but always came out the victor.
Following retirement, she put thousands of miles on her vehicles traveling the country by herself to visit her beloved family and network of friends.
She was a wonderful friend to many and was kind, supportive and loving beyond measure to her stepchildren, nieces and nephews.
Darcy was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Hazel Radcliffe, her husband William Andrew Sease, and sisters Anne Wimmer, Margaret Radcliffe and Karen Molgaard. She is survived by her stepdaughter Cindy Sease and husband Don, stepson Jeff Sease, niece Sue Peterson and husband Randy, niece Sandy Nichols and husband John, nephew Leith Wimmer and nephew Chuck Wimmer and wife Becky, nephew Jay Molgaard and wife Rebecca and nephew Peter Molgaard and wife Aubrey. She is also survived by grandchildren Lena Romeo and husband Mike, Amelia, Margot and Isabelle Sease, and great grandson Dawson Romeo. She is also survived by her great nieces and nephews Katelyn Peterson, Andre, Quinn and Liam Nichols, Sorynn Molgaard and Benton, Nissa, Grayson and Elin Molgaard. She is also survived by her extraordinary neighbors John and Mary Ann Farrington.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, CO with a reception to follow. Burial will be in Green Mountain Cemetery, Boulder.
