Dorothy was born at Cambridge Hospital (Mass.) as the middle child of three sisters. Dottie, as she preferred to be called, lived in Belmont, Mass. and graduated from Belmont Senior High School in 1942. As men were being drafted or joining the Armed Forces in World War II, and women were replacing them in jobs, Dottie spent some time working at the war plants in Greensboro, N.C. She and husband Harold Short lived in Longmont for forty years where she was the store manager for the Salvation Army shop on Main St. She was also a volunteer at Longmont United Hospital for twenty years.
Dottie lived to the amazing age of 98. She was preceded in death by her parents Dora Holmes Dow and Frank Ray Dow, husband Harold M. Short, sisters Priscilla Osborne and Martha Morrissey, nieces Judy Davis and Susan Tunaitis, nephews Stanley Morrissey, Jr. and Gary S. Morrissey.
She is survived by three sons, Craig Randy (Donna) Short and Tim Short, both of Longmont, and Robert (Amy) Short of Pikeville, NC; six grandchildren: Tina Gilmore, Greene, NY; Toby (Staci) Short, Pikeville, NC; Todd (Vanessa) Short, Colorado Springs, CO; Michele (Carlos Angulo) Short, Lakewood, CO; Christopher Short, Longmont, CO; Ryan Short, Longmont, CO and five great-grandchildren Skylar Gilmore, Greene, NY; Breven Gilmore, Greene, NY; Emma Short, Longmont, CO; Haley Short, Pikeville, NC; Caleb Angulo, Lakewood, CO.
For the last six years Dottie was a resident at Life Care Center of Longmont, where they engaged her in many activities (she liked them all, but bingo most of all) and offered her wonderful care for which the family is grateful. Before moving to Life Care Center, Dottie received much help from Project Hope of Boulder County Social Services. Mary Lou of Project Hope was a treasured friend and guide for Dottie for many years, as was Social Services volunteer Mary Jasper.
Private services will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery, where Dottie will be inurned next to husband Harold. Their love for each other was extremely strong, and they will now be united again.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.howemortuary.com for the Short family.
