

Dudley Cary Goodsell, Jr., 84, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, at The Bridge in Longmont, CO. He was surrounded by family at the time of his death. Dudley was born on February 23, 1941, in Denver, CO, to Dudley Cary Goodsell, Sr. and Shirley Ann Dale Goodsell.
As the son of a Naval Officer, Dudley had the unique opportunity to live in various locations across the United States during his childhood. However, he always considered Colorado his home, and after several years, his family returned to Denver, where he grew up. Dudley graduated from South High School in Denver in 1958 before going on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from the University of Denver. Later in life, he continued his education at the University of Northern Colorado, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a teaching certificate in Biological Science.
Dudley proudly served in the U.S. Navy from May 17, 1963, to May 14, 1965, as a Junior Enlisted Seaman (E-3). After his military service, he transitioned to a career in business and sales, working as a manager at JCPenney’s, followed by roles as a pharmaceutical sales representative for Stapleton Drug Company, Fox Vliet, and Fox Meyer. In 1972, he moved with his family to a farm in the Ft. Lupton area and later embarked on a fulfilling second career as a high school teacher. He retired in the Spring of 2007 after many years of teaching at Ft. Lupton High School.
Dudley was a devoted member of Saint Nicholas Catholic Church in Platteville, CO. He was known for his love of woodworking and coaching high school sports, including football, baseball, girls’ basketball, and girls’ track.
Dudley is survived by his son, Charles R. Goodsell; his daughter, Jennie (Wayne) Kawata; his grandchildren, Alex (Laura) Goodsell, Sarah (Tate) Kawata Mekelburg, and Samantha (Ryan) Hodson; and his great-grandchildren, Nolan and Oakley Goodsell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley Cary Goodsell, Sr. and Shirley Ann Dale Goodsell.

A public visitation for Dudley will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry Street, Longmont, CO 80501. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 316 Elizabeth Ave, Platteville, CO 80651. A graveside committal will occur Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at Mizpah Cemetery, Weld County Rd 32 (Grand Ave), East of State Hwy 85, Platteville, CO 80651. A reception will be held following the graveside committal at First United Methodist Church in Platteville.
