

Ed was born on January 24, 1921 in Ft. Collins to Jake Peppler and Emma Schnell Peppler. The family moved to the Mead area when he was a year old and lived and farmed in the area from there forward. He married Florence Walker, the love of his life, on January 24, 1942 in Longmont.
Ed proudly served his country during World War II as part of the 157th Infantry. There he was wounded and returned to the U.S. receiving the Bronze Star of Valor and the Purple Heart. He remained a loyal Patriot his entire life. A special moment was attending the dedication of the WWII Memorial with his friend Marilyn Palmer. He also went on the Freedom Flight to Washington D.C. in 2013 with his grandson, Bill Smith as his sponsor.
Ed began his farming career upon returning to Longmont in 1945. He purchased a farm northwest of Longmont on Highway 66. In 1961, he began to develop his farm under the title of Anhawa Manor. He spearheaded the development and construction of the Longs Peak Water Association.
Ed was a community leader and deeply involved in Longmont’s needs and interests. He served on the Longmont Mountain View Cemetery Board for over 40 years and served as President for the last 20. He was on the St. Vrain Valley School Board; various Ditch Boards (Longmont Supply and Rough and Ready); and the Christ Congregational Church Board. He was instrumental in coordinating the merging the Longs Peak Osteopathic Hospital with Longmont Hospital becoming the Longmont United Hospital. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post #2601; the American Legion Post #32; the B.P.O.E. #1055 and the Longmont Kiwanis Club where he proudly served as an officer for many years.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife; two brothers Jake, Jr. and Lloyd Peppler, a sister Lillian Cunningham and his son-in- law Russell Calhoun.
Surviving are his daughter Anita Calhoun of Tacoma, WA; two sons Harleigh (Cheryl) Peppler of Johnstown, CO; and Warren (Denise) Peppler of Longmont; a brother Vernon (Carol) Peppler of Longmont; best friend Marilyn Palmer; grandchildren Heidi, Jason (J Hamilton), Nicole Calhoun and Rachel David; Brandon (Tiffany) Maus and Devon (Autumn) Maus; Michele (Bill) Smith and Katie Jennings; 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
A private entombment was held at the Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 13 at the Howe Mortuary Chapel, with Reverend Heidi Calhoun officiating.
