Edwin “Ed” Tomac, 86, of Golden, Colorado, passed away December 31, 2025, surrounded by his family. Ed was born January 27, 1939 in a Van Houten, New Mexico coal camp to Ivan “John” and Mary (Milich) Tomac. He grew up in San Francisco, California, graduated from Des Moines High School in New Mexico, attended San Jose State University, and later received an Associates Degree in electronics. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp, mainly based in Japan.
On September 14, 1963 he married his beloved wife Deanna (Bressler) in Mountain View, California. Together they resided in the San Francisco Bay Area, Raton, New Mexico, and Loveland, Colorado before finally settling in Longmont in 1977. In 2019 Ed joined the community at Golden Pond Senior Living in Golden, Colorado.
Ed had an eclectic career, succeeding in many industries. He delivered newspapers to Joe DiMaggio’s family, cracked crabs on the wharf in San Francisco, was a ranch hand, sold cigarettes to prisoners, was a reserve police officer, co-owned two 7-11’s and a Western Auto franchise with his wife, and ‘flipped’ houses before that was a thing, just to name a few. His proudest professional accomplishment was becoming co-owner of Independent Testing Laboratories (ITL) in Boulder, Colorado, the largest light testing company in the world at the time.
Ed was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church since 1977 and was devoted to his faith and family. He loved good food, red wine, and to brag about his family’s accomplishments. He joyfully engaged with everyone he crossed paths with, not believing in strangers, and tried to make them all happier. He was creative in unexpected ways and used humor to make everyone comfortable around him. No one who met him ever forgot him.
Ed was preceded in death by his dear wife Deanna of 55 years, brother John, and sister Dorothy. He is survived by his children Wayne Tomac and Sandra Lea Tomac (Alvin Santos) and his grandchildren Evan and Olivia.
A celebration of life will be held at 12:00pm Monday, January 12, 2026, at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, viewing from 11am, at 640 Alpine St in Longmont.
