
Fern Carroll of Loveland, CO passed away at McKee Medical Center on Sunday June 15, 2008. She was 94.Fern was born at Ord, Nebraska February 3, 1914 to Stella (Virden) and Duncan McCrea. They came as a family to Colorado when she was quite young settling in the Loveland area where her grandparents had homesteaded around Boyd Lake.Fern met and married Halley Carroll in Brighton, CO on February 3, 1931. They farmed in the Berthoud area all of their married life until moving to Good Samaritan Village in 1998. Because Fern and Halley were some of the original homesteaders in Berthoud, they were some of the first R.E.A. rural electric association customers. Fern was an active member at the First Presbyterian Church in Berthoud for many years. She was also a founding mother of The Whipple Club in Berthoud, which began in 1940. She was the last surviving charter member of the club. Reading and sewing were Fern's pastimes.Her husband Halley, parents, brother James McCrea, sister Laura Holliman, grandson David Deeds and great grandson Jay Weisgerber precede her in death. Surviving are daughters Helen Weisgerber, Longmont, CO; Janet (Richard) Burr, Rocky Ford, CO; grandchildren: Ron (Suzette) Weisgerber, Carol (Randy) Kluender, Debra Deeds (Jake) Autry, Sonja (Stan) Fettig, Ann Magee, Jeanette Deeds; great grandchcildren: Ryan (Larissa) Weisgerber, Troy Soukup, Renee (Tommie) Cook, Paul (Katy) Workman, Blake (Gina) Kluender, Laini (Brandon) Madewell, Julie (Zeb Sanborn) Workman, Christina Kluender, Kara (Ryan Mosher) Autry, Drew Magee, and four great-great grandsons.A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Berthoud, CO with David Bradshaw officiating. Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.Memorials to the library at Good Samaritan Village in Loveland may be given in lieu of flowers.
