Frank Scott Bigelow, age 79, of Boulder, Colorado passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022. Frank was born in Sturgis, Michigan April 5, 1943 to Edith Vaughn and Reuben Bigelow. He lost his mother when he was three and his father passed away when Frank was 14 years old. He and his sister Phyllis, moved to Perrysburg, Ohio to live with their aunts and uncle.
He attended high school at Tabor Academy in Marion Mass. From there he attended the University of Colorado. Frank left the University to join the United States Army as a Special Agent in Army Counter Intelligence. During the Vietnam War, he served as the Special Agent in charge of the Phoenix Field Office.
Upon discharge from the Army, he returned to the University of Colorado where he met his life’s love, Andrea Pierce. They met in September of 1968 and were married in December of that same year. Together, they had three children, Ben, Vaughn and Allison who in turn gave him nine grandchildren, Pierce, Alexander, Nicholas, Vaughn Jr, Cooper, Asa, Abigail, Henry and Andrew.
Over his life, Frank was a husband, father, grandfather, private pilot, advertising salesman, a type setter, a stock broker, an entrepreneur, a manufacturer, a sailor and a farmer/rancher. Frank and Andrea restored the 320 acre Sandstone Ranch east of Longmont where they raised their children, cows, horses, dogs and cats. They eventually turned ownership of the ranch over to the City of Longmont for the perpetual use as a public park and education center.
He loved traveling and seeing new things. Together with his wife, he traveled to all seven continents. One of his great joys was building a sailboat in France. Then with his son Vaughn and friends, he sailed the “SV Andrea B” across the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean Sea, where he and his wife spent many years sailing it up and down the island chain.
Frank’s life was long, full and blessed.
