Glen Allen Youngman was born July 13, 1943, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, the son of August Herman (“Harry”) Youngman and Ruth Arlene (Thorne) Youngman. He died at the inpatient TRU Community Care unit at Longmont United Hospital on Wednesday evening February 4, 2026. He was 82 years oid.
Glen was educated in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, public schools, graduating high school in 1961. He obtained an Associate Degree in Industrial Electronics from North Idaho College in 1963. He worked part time in his parents’ restaurant, The Round Top Café, and was employed for a time by the U.S. Forest Service in Idaho, and Osborn Electronics in Portland, Oregon.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Corpsman from 1964 to 1966. He was trained as a combat medic. His overseas duty during the Vietnam Conflict Era was in West Germany. He was the recipient of the Army Good Conduct Medal and the Safe Drivers Medal. He worked TDY at Ramstein AF Base where he drove an ambulance. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He was married in 1966, and had two sons, Philip & Shawn. He & his first wife later were divorced. He married Joy Christine (Roushey) Olson on August 16, 1975, in Walla Walla, Washington. Last August, they were married for 50 years.
Glen was employed by IBM as a Customer Engineer in Moscow, Idaho, for 11.5 years. He moved to Longmont, Colorado, in 1978. He worked at the Boulder IBM plant site as a Test Equipment Technician and as a Laboratory Technician. He was the recipient of 33 Suggestion Awards and the Manufacturing Award. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was medically retired in 1991.
Glen was an avid hobbyist. His excellence in modeling began in childhood and continued throughout his life. He built a 10 ft. by 10 ft. around-the-room HO gauge model railroad. Buildings were constructed from kits. The small people were hand-painted. He enjoyed model railroading, reading, southern gospel music, and biking to garage sales. He had to give up bike riding and neighborhood walks, as well as driving, 10 years ago.
When he was 13 years old, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was baptized in the Baptist Church in Coeur d'Alene. He attended Grace Evangelical Free Church. As Glen’s health declined over the past few years, he no longer felt up to attending church or social events. He spent much of his time reading the Bible (read in its entirety 62 times) and Christian inspirational books. He had a strong faith in the Lord. He was not shy about sharing his faith with anyone.
He was preceded in death by both parents and his sister, Betty Ann Straw. Survivors include his wife Joy of Longmont; two sons: Philip John Youngman (wife Julie) of Rathdrum, Idaho; Shawn Andrew Youngman, (wife Kim), of Post Falls, Idaho; two step-sons: Bradley Keith Olson (wife Francisca) of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland; Matthew Allan Olson, (his girlfriend, Jennifer Samson), Longmont, CO; three grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 2 nephews, one niece, 1 cousin, and 4 great grandchildren.
