

Jack Stephen Strong, 84, of Lafayette, passed away on November 10th, 2016 at Spanish Peak's Veterans Living Center in Walsenburg, Colorado and has gone to join his Lord, friends and loved ones.He was born in Lewistown, Montana on May 28th, 1932 to Stephen and Geneva (Hendricks) Strong. Jack went through school in Choteau, MT. He then joined the Marine Corps and was sent to the Korean war. He was wounded in battle on his 19th birthday and received a purple heart and an honorable discharge. Jack began college at Montana State University where he met the love of his life and married Joyce Bonander on May 30th 1954. Jack and Joyce raised four children and he served as a Montana Highway State Patrolman. He moved his family to Colorado in 1962 and became a Drywaller and then a Hard Rock Miner at the Henderson Mine finishing his career at Sun Construction as a Drywall Finisher. He served many years with the VFW Post 1771 and held the positions of Commander, Quartermaster and Chaplin. Jack enjoyed helping people, being outdoors hunting, fishing and working around the yard. He also loved cooking his special recipes, and was an avid Bronco fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Janis and his wife Joyce. He is survived by his son Steve, (Margaret) of Longmont, daughter Kathi McNeil of Greeley, daughter Marge Thomsen (Tim) of La Veta, son Tim (Jackie) of Berthoud, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
