

James E. Olson “Jim, Jimmy”, 71, of Longmont, died unexpectedly on June 15, 2015 at his home in Longmont. Jim was born February 4, 1944 in Paynesville, MN the son of Jennis B. and Alice (Weber) Olson. He was a graduate of South High School in Wichita, KS.
After moving to Longmont, Jim began working for Schey’s clothing store in Longmont, he then went to work for the Daily Times Call in advertising sales. Upon his retirement from the newspaper, he worked for a time at Fastenal, Safeway in Estes Park and finally for Stapp Toyota. He retired in 2010. Jim was a member of the Longmont Moose Lodge and will be remembered for his love for his grandchildren and his ability to make people laugh, he was a jokester. In his earlier years he was an active member of the Longmont Jaycees and played on a number of softball teams in the area. He was also a sports fan, he loved the mountains, 4-wheeling, camping, fishing, cooking and took pride in tending his yard.
On March 15, 2002 Jim married Colleen Patricia Smith in Estes Park, CO.
Survivors include his wife Patty Olson of Longmont, his mother Darlene Olson of Minnesota, his son Braden (Suzanna) Olson of Firestone, his brother Jacob Morgan of New Mexico and his sisters Marilyn (Brian) Butler of Florida, Teresa (Jack) Lee of Kansas, Kathie (Peter) Chandler of Wyoming, Elizabeth (Harry) Lahr of Minnesota, Helen Wilson and Delores (Jerome) Waalk also of Minnesota. He is further survived by four grandchildren: Kenneth James Jones, Robyn Larene Francis, Caleb James Southey and Aryanna Grace Olson, many nieces and nephews and his brother in law Gary (Khambot) Smith and step-daughters Karrie Southey and Kimber Wilcoxson. He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 23, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Howe Mortuary. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 also at the Howe Mortuary. Services will conclude at the Mortuary, with a reception in the Howe Mortuary Event Room.
Contributions in Jim’s memory are requested to either the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Diabetes Association.
