

James was born on November 28, 1926 in Glasco, Kansas. He joined the army in World War II and served in Germany during the occupation. Following his service in Germany he got a degree in accounting from Kansas State University. In 1951 he moved to Boulder Colorado and worked for several different government contractors at Rocky Flats. He worked at Rocky Flats until it was decommissioned. He was promoted to Benefits Director and was involved in Union negotiations. He remained active in the military reserve, rose to the rank of Colonel and was inducted into the US Army Field Artillery Hall of Fame.
James lived a very rich life. He was licensed to race sports cars. James was also a fully certified ski instructor who began his career at Eldora and moved on to work with the Over the Hill Gang at Copper Mountain. He loved to mountain bike and he took up golf when he retired. He traveled extensively with his wife after retirement. To know him was to love him, evidenced by his many friends. James was preceded in death by his son Greg and his sister Julia. He is survived by his wife Betty, his brothers George and John, his sister Mary, and his son Michael. He is also survived by his Grandchildren Alicia, Kristina, Gerald, and Hunter, and his Great-Grandchildren Gregory and Ashley.
There will be memorial service at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 16 at 1:30 pm.
