JEAN L. BRITTON
September 13, 1942 – October 25, 2024
Jean Louise (Hohman) Britton, age 82, of Johnstown, CO died peacefully on October 25, 2024 at Grace Point Senior Care in Greeley, CO. Jean was born on September 13, 1942, to Gerald and Irene (Kreis) Hohman in Greenfield, IA. In 1951, the family moved to Longmont, CO to be near the mountains.
Jean graduated from Longmont High School in 1960 and later attended Nebraska Wesleyan University, Lincoln, NE. She started her career as a secretary for Esquire, Inc. (aka Neodata). Later she was employed with IBM as executive secretary for the controller.
Jean met her husband, Charles Britton, while attending high school and got married in September, 1970. Jean and Charles were later blessed with four children. Even though she loved her secretarial career, Jean found being a stay-at-home mother for their children was the most fulfilling opportunity she had ever encountered. She home-schooled them for a number of years and was able to watch them thrive and grow. Seeing them progress toward their dreams was a rewarding goal. Later grandchildren gave her a new dimension in living, and she kept them in a special place in her heart.
Nothing gave her greater joy than being together as a family. Playing board games and taking family trips were favorite pastimes for Jean. Also, attending the children’s school events held many fond memories. She loved taking drives into the mountains for quiet get-away’s with her husband.
Jean grew up attending the First Methodist Church, Longmont where her youth leaders, Neil and Alice Keysor, were instrumental in showing her the Christian walk by example. Church was always an important part of her life. After marriage, she became an active member of New Creation Church, Longmont and later Resurrection Fellowship, Loveland where she attended Bible studies and conferences. During her senior years, she became involved with Grace Community Church, Johnstown and later Foundations Church, Loveland. Jean enjoyed her daily prayer time and reading Christian books. She had a close relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She is preceded in death by her parents and grandson Zachary Carter. She is survived by her husband Charles of Johnstown; sons John Britton of Johnstown, CO and Christopher Britton of Leander, TX; daughters Janet Carter of Houston, TX and Deborah Hull and husband Nathan Hull of Whitewater, CO; granddaughters Ashley Coots and husband Caden Coots and lindsay Tomaszewski and husband Corbin Tomaszewski; grandsons Timothy Hull and Brian Hull; great-grandson Magnus Stepan; twin sister Judy Duggleby and husband Norman Duggleby; nieces and nephews and her special cousins.
A funeral service will be held at Grace Community Church 2033 W. South 1st St, Johnstown, CO on November 1, 2024, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Vision for Israel (help.ifcj.org).
