Jesse Howard Hallowell

Jesse Howard Hallowell, age 88, passed away at his home in Longmont, CO on July 4, 2014.Jesse was born June 7, 1926 to Jesse Ralph and Edna Ann (Hackett) Hallowell in Oakland, IL. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by one sister, Helen B. Curtis of Decatur, IL.Ten days after graduating from High School. Jesse joined the U.S. Navy and spent the majority of his time in the service aboard a ship in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged on May 22, 1946 as Radarman Second Class.While attending Eastern Illinois State College he met and married Betty J. VanBlaricum, his wife of 65 years. They were married on April 30, 1949 in Henderson, KY and are the parents of three children; Jesse Van (Cheryle) Hallowell, Patricia Sue (James) Dean who preceded him in death, and Paul Hallowell.Jesse joined U.S. Industrial Chemical Company May 23, 1953 at the Tuscola plant. Two years later he transferred to Chicago sales department; he also worked in the Boston, MA and New York City offices before retiring in 1984 after 31 years.In 1984 Jesse and Betty moved to a small farm near Lerna, IL, and in 1997 they moved to Longmont, CO to be closer to family. Surviving are his wife, two children, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.Memorial service 4pm Tuesday July 8, 2014 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.Jesse's ashes will be inurned at Oakland Cemetery in Oakland, IL at a later date with Masonic and Military rites.
