Katherine Katie G. Sanger

Katherine Katie Sanger passed away peacefully at Exempla Good Samaritan hospital April 19, 2015, surrounded by her beloved family. Born, Gertrude Katherine G tz in Brighton, Colorado, she was a farmer's daughter. She met the love of her life, Jake Sanger, and they married on May 6, 1950. They moved to Erie in 1969, where they lived out their lives together.Katie loved to cook and worked at Skelly's restaurant and Foothills Care Center in the kitchen. She retired in 1988 from HEAD Sports but continued to cook her family's favorites - homemade dumplings and noodles, as well as everyone's favorite pie for each holiday celebration!She was an avid Bronco and Rockies fan, loved to play Bingo, travel up the hill to Black Hawk, and lottery tickets were always a special part of her birthday! Her flower and vegetable gardens were amazing as she truly had a green thumb. She loved all these things but nothing meant more to her than her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. No matter how she felt or what was going on around her, they could always bring a smile to her face!She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jake, children Charlotte and Joseph, 6 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by her children Jake Sanger, Jr., Kathy Sanger, Phyllis Peterson (Randy), Don Sanger, Ray Sanger, Jim Sanger (Kim), George Sanger (Julie), and Sherry Renken (Troy). Grandchildren: Charlotte Bassett (Cobin), Krystal Zamudio (Michael), Kristin Peterson, Clifford Sanger (Ashley), Denise Sanger, Jake Sanger (Sara), Austin Brunz, Trevor, Tyler, Tegan and Andrew Renken. Great-grandchildren: Hali, Hannah, Justus, Jaikah, Ziva, Shelby, and two new arrivals due in August.Please join the family as we celebrate Katie's life on Sunday April 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Johnson Memorial Building at the corner of Cheesman and High Streets in Erie, Colorado.Graveside service will be held Tuesday April 28 at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. at Staging Area B.
