Ryan’s faith in Jesus Christ was central and impacted every phase of his life. God used his long struggle with brain cancer to perfect his faith, encourage others, and prepare him for heaven. Ryan loved his family and his greatest joy was being a husband to his wife Renee and a father to two amazing boys. He passed on his excellent, dry sense of humor and inspired their love for the original Star Wars series and J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings.
Ryan loved spending his time outside in God’s creation. As a proud Colorado native, he enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing, skiing, and hunting. He was an avid participant and fan of any sport, mainstream or otherwise. One of his favorite pastimes was reading, learning, and retaining just about every random fact to save for later conversation with family and friends.
Ryan was preceded in death by two grandfathers, Paul Sunberg and Larry Nordick, and an uncle, Mark Sunberg. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Renee Sunberg, sons Jeremiah and Liam Sunberg, parents Kevin and Jana Sunberg, sisters Michaela (Michael) Achterhof and Molly Sunberg, grandmothers Myrna Sunberg and Joyce Nordick, and a host of loving in-laws, a nephew, two nieces, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Family and friends will celebrate God’s faithfulness in Ryan’s life at his funeral at Calvary Church in Longmont on Sunday, May 26th at 3pm. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, Ryan requested that donations be made to contribute to his sons’ future.
