

Leonard ˜Len' David Witkowski, 62, of Longmont passed away Friday, October 27, 2017, at Longmont United Hospital.Len was born September 10, 1955, in Amsterdam, NY to Leo and Anna (Hovak) Witkowski. Len moved to Colorado in 1973 to attend the Colorado School of Mines where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in mining engineering. He later received a Master's in Business Administration from Marshall University.His career in engineering had him working in various fields including coal mining, gold, petroleum, oil and gas. In addition to his engineering career, Len was always working on projects, remodeling homes, tinkering with machines, creating spreadsheets, and pruning black walnut trees.Len enjoyed collecting a variety of things including minerals, rocks, coins, Rose O'Neill art work, Kewpies, vaseline glass, carousel horses and other unique items from around the world. He traveled the world, was entertaining and always had a story to tell. He was a talented dancer and danced on the Great Wall of China, a ballroom in Russia and cruise ships around the world with his much loved life partner Kimberly. He enjoyed dinner theater and Broadway shows especially Oklahoma, Moulin Rouge, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He was a Broncos season ticket holder and attended Broncos games for nearly 40 years. He was a connoisseur of potato pancakes (with extra sour cream), kielbasa, pierogies, and rye bread. He was a milkshake master and had a secret recipe for thin mint milkshakes. He was a devoted son to his mother Anna and spent countless hours on the family farm in Broadalbin, NY maintaining his beloved walnut trees.He could be exceptionally and surprisingly kind. He tutored inner city kids, volunteered at the Denver Rescue Mission, would often buy meals for strangers, and brought coffee to crossing guards. He is loved by his family and will be missed.He was preceded in death by his father Leo Witkowski.Len is survived by his mother Anna Witkowski, daughter Amanda Abney and husband Temple, son Nicholas Witkowski, grandson Temple Abney IV and brother James Witkowski and wife Susan. He is also survived by his loving life partner Kimberly Brayman, her children Chelsea Wilson and husband Matthew Kelsey, Kailey Wilson and partner Aaron Bennett, and Chad Wilson and his dogs Yogi and Lucy.Memorial services will be held 5:00pm Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
