Leota Mae Grooms

Leota was born on June 26, 1929, in Dewey County, Oklahoma. She was raised by Clarence and Lottie Richardson, Nacona, Texas. She graduated from Prairie Valley High School, Nacona, Texas in 1948. After high school she went to nursing school and met and married Vann H. Grooms, who was in the Air Force, on March 3, 1950, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Throughout their marriage while in the military, they lived in numerous places, including Okinawa, Japan. They raised a family during those years and when Vann retired, they moved to Longmont, Colorado. While in Longmont, Leota and Vann enjoyed square dancing, bowling and bingo. Leota loved cooking, baking and taking care of her family and spending time with friends. More recently her passion was watching sports and game shows on television.

She was preceded in death by her husband Vann in October 2000. She is survived by her son, Richard (Diane) Grooms of Centennial, Colorado; grandson, Michael (Christina) Grooms, granddaughters Angela (Ronny) Tuxhorn, Shannon (Darren) Lewis Bentner, and Jennifer Grooms; great grandchildren Casey Tuxhorn, Haylie Grooms, Anthony Duran, Steven Jenkins, Austin Matney, and Cory Lewis.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry Street, Longmont, Colorado, with burial following at Mountain View Cemetery in Longmont, Colorado. There will be a visitation from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Ahlberg’s.
