Lynn was born in Houston, Texas to Velmer Lindsey Woodward and Estelle Dealy on January 16, 1938. As a teenager growing up in the 50’s, he loved Friday night Western movies, model trains and Hot Rods, which led to his lifelong love of Lionel Trains and NASCAR racing. A graduation trip after high school introduced him to the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado. He graduated from Sam Houston University and then joined the Air National Guard which coincidentally landed him at Lowrey Air Force Base “beautiful Colorado” for basic training. He served for six years at Ellington Air Force Base in Houston, Texas.
In 1964 he was set up on a blind date by his good buddy from Ellington which introduced him to his wife Charlotte. She caught his eye because of her 1963 Chev Impala and her platinum blond hair. They were married in 1965 in Natchitoches, Louisiana and honeymooned in “beautiful Colorado”. They picnicked at Pikes Peak Hill Climb, introducing his bride to car racing in Colorado Springs. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this past June.
He started his career at IBM in 1966. He made the decision to transfer and move the family to Niwot, Colorado in 1979. He retired from IBM after 27 years. In 1995 his interests led him to a position working on the distribution of model trains at Intermountain Railroad in Longmont, Colorado for 17 years.
Lynn was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of Columbine Lions Club. He served as President for two terms with the Lions. He volunteered his time for both organizations for many years. Lynn enjoyed playing Bridge and was a huge history buff, even winning a trophy on a cruise ship! He loved going to the Niwot sports games where he watched his daughters cheerlead and his nephew play ball. He never missed a Bronco game.
His skills were put to the test when he and his son had to build a canoe for a Wyoming river trip for Boy Scouts. Luckily for Lynn the boys stayed afloat. Lynn’s skills were designed more toward building his Lionel train layout and many hours were devoted to the 60 yr old set.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Jennifer Ann and his nephew Donny Fort. Lynn is survived by his wife Charlotte, and their two children: Eric Lindsey Woodward of Denver, Colorado and Sara (Stephen) Brumder of Gulf Breeze, Florida. Additionally, he is survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Anita Fort and the Fort family: Dee Moore, Melissa, Kyler, Jaden, Asa, Lyric, Mary and Jax.
