Loretta Bernadette Mooney died October 9, 2022, in Longmont, Colorado, surrounded by her five children who felt blessed to have known her as a loving mother, a generous individual, and warm spirited woman.
Loretta was born March 6, 1932, in Flushing, New York to Marian (Iulo) and Vincent Martino. She grew up in New York with her parents and her brother Vincent, Jr., and lived close to her large Italian extended family. After her high school graduation, she went on to attend and graduate from a fashion merchandising trade school. On January 10, 1953, Loretta married Arthur John Mooney, Jr. The couple resided in Norfolk, Virginia, for two years while her husband was in the Navy, before moving to Denver, Colorado, and eventually moved to Boulder, where they raised their five children. In 1984 they moved to Longmont and became active members at Fox Hill Country Club and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Loretta worked for First National Bank in Boulder and then for Public Service Company (Excel Energy), before retiring in 1994 after 25 years of service. She was a beloved co-worker and friend to many she worked with and also was a dedicated Mother to raising a family of five children. Following her retirement, she worked part-time for the Stapp automobile dealerships in Longmont. Loretta was also an active volunteer with the Newcomers Club and the Longmont Food Bank, where she met many of her closest friends.
In her free time, Loretta was an avid card player with her friends, an avid reader, and loved to travel with family and friends. She enjoyed long walks around the neighborhood, traveling to Europe with her friends, sipping on red wine, and being involved as much as possible in her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren’s lives. She also loved the company of her grand dog Zelda who brought her great comfort and joy. Loretta gave both her time and love to them all and was a very positive force and influence in all of their lives.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Arthur John Mooney, Jr. (deceased July 2010). She is survived by her five children, oldest to youngest, Kevin Mooney and his wife Tracy of Gering, NE.; Brian Mooney and his wife Deborah of Westminster, CO.; Kathleen Albert of Loveland, CO.; Bridget Harman and her husband John of Greensboro, GA.; Karen Thornton and her husband Matthew of Longmont, CO.
