Louise Gene Estes

Louise Gene Estes, 91, of Longmont passed away May 26, 2017 at Life Care Center of Longmont.She was born October 4, 1925 in Bloomfield, Indiana to Carlos Bert and Lura (Hollars) Cain.Gene earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics from Purdue University, graduating in 1948.From 1948 to 1957 Gene was the secretary for executive personnel at Marshall & Field Company in Chicago.On June 9, 1957, she married John C. ˜Jack' Estes in Chicago. They moved to Boulder, CO. Gene worked as a secretary in the Aeronautical Engineering department at the University of Colorado in Boulder from Sept. 1957 to June 1958, while Jack worked towards his Master's degree.Gene is remembered as a loving wife, mother and homemaker. The family lived in Seattle, WA from June 1958 to Feb. 1962 and then March 1962 to April 1992 North Olmsted, OH was home. Gene and Jack retired to Boulder, CO in 1992 and finally moved to Longmont in 2015.Gene was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church in North Olmsted and First Presbyterian Church in Boulder. She was also a member of P.E.O. Chapter EI and the Boulder Doll Club.She enjoyed sewing, doll collecting and bowling, belonging to a weekly league from 1968 to 2014. Gene was a major fan of the Purdue University athletic programs and the Colorado Rockies.She was preceded in death by her parents.Gene is survived by her husband Jack, two sons Michael Estes and Peter Estes, three grandchildren Kayla Miles, Leanna Estes and Joseph Estes, one great grandchild on the way, daughter-in-law Barbara Estes, brother Ret. Col. Lloyd R. Cain US Army and two sisters Mary Kindig and Ruby Lee.Memorial services will be held 10:30am Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Westview Presbyterian Church, 1500 Hover Street, Longmont, CO 80501. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to Westview Presbyterian Church and sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
