Makayla Amber Grote, 20, of Longmont, died November 18, 2017 in Longmont. She was born October 28, 1997 in Englewood, CO to Troy B. and Dennette (Dellovade) Grote. She was a 2016 graduate of Green Mountain High School in Lakewood. Following her high school graduation she attended both Aims Community College and Mesa Community College in Arizona. She moved from Lakewood to Longmont in May of 2017 and was employed at Buffalo Wild Wings in Longmont.
Makayla loved playing softball, 2nd base was her spot with the Colorado Rattlers. In 2014 she was chosen to play on the all-star team with a group of young girls from California. If she wasn’t playing softball, or spending time on the computer, she was racing. Makayla started racing go-karts at the age of 9. She raced junior 1 carts in 2009-2010, junior 2 in 2011-2012. In 2013 Makayla and her Dad, along with her brother Justin, built her first pure stock car to race at Colorado National Speedway. That year she finished 9th in points and also won CNS Sportsman of the Year. She stepped into a late model in 2014 for a few races and after taking most of 2015 off, she raced super stocks in 2016 finishing 11th in points and again winning CNS Sportsman of the year. In 2017 she raced a super stock and grand american modified in both Colorado and Arizona. Makayla was well on her way to becoming big in the sport of racing.
Makayla is survived by her parents Troy and Dennette Grote, her brother Justin Grote and her sister Nicole Grote. She is further survived by Noah Malik, her boyfriend of 2 ½ years; her grandparents Glenn and Debby Grote of Littleton, CO and Dennis (Jan) Dellovade of McMurray, PA. She is also survived by her friend Kristen Eilertson of Lakewood, CO and a host of other friends too numerous to mention. She was preceded in death by her grandmother Marilyn Dellovade.
A Celebration of Makayla’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Colorado National Speedway in Dacono, CO.
