

Margaret “Tyler” Brooks, of Longmont, passed away at her home on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, after a twenty-year struggle with breast cancer, surrounded by loving family and friends. Tyler was born in Cleveland, OH, on February 3, 1956 to James White and Anne Curtis Johnson.
Tyler graduated from the Webb School of Knoxville in 1974 and in 1978 from the University of Tennessee where she studied Graphic and Communication Design . In 1988, Tyler moved to Colorado. She received her Teaching Certificate from Regis University in 2005. Tyler was involved with a myriad of activities in both her leisure and professional life and she influenced every life she touched. She was employed by St. John’s the Baptist Catholic School from 1998-2007 where she taught P.E. and Health for grades K-8. Tyler was a fitness instructor for 25 years. Throughout that time, she was a personal trainer and was active in group fitness, spinning, kickboxing, step aerobics, and swim lessons. She was a Kids Camp Director at Longmont Athletic Club, Rocky Mountain Christian Church, St. John’s Catholic School, and Summer Program Director for Alexander Dawson School. After retirement, Tyler continued to volunteer at Alexander Dawson school as a substitute teacher. Tyler was also a Victim’s Advocate with the Longmont Police Department from 2013 to present, volunteer work that remained close to her heart. As a passionate tennis player, she played in numerous leagues, connected with an active community, and met her loving husband on the court.
Survivors include her husband, Jere Barto of Longmont, whom she married in 2009; daughter, Alexander Anne Brooks, of Boulder; siblings, Jamie and his wife Tammy and Andy and his wife Jennie Johnson, both of Knoxville, TN and Lucy Johnson Neiman and her husband Paul of Rye, NH, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Tyler was preceded in death by her son, John Thomas Brooks.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1pm, Sunday, October, 1, 2017 at Alexander Dawson School, 10455 Dawson Drive, Lafayette, CO, 80026.
A Memorial Service will also be held in November in Knoxville, TN .
