Marie was born on October 18, 1942, to John Mathias and Marie (DeHaven) Mathias in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After Marie graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School in 1960, she went on to study math and physics at Chestnut Hill College, both in Philadelphia.
In 1968, Marie met Jack Bamberg while working at General Electric in Philadelphia. It was love at first sight. On their honeymoon, they traveled to Boulder, Colorado, where it was love at first sight again – with the mountains. In 1972 they moved to Colorado. Marie and Jack had one child, Wendy.
Marie loved to cook and spend time with family. She was active in parent and school groups, and she was a valued team member of McKesson, where she went back to work until a stroke when she was only 59.
Throughout her life, Marie’s all-time favorite pastime was reading. She would have bought every book at the Longmont Library Book Sales if she’d had enough space to store them.
Marie was predeceased by her brothers Johnny and Bill Mathias. She is survived by her husband Jack, who has also been her dedicated caregiver for 23 years. She is also survived by her daughter Wendy, two grandchildren, Reese and Jonah, and her siblings, Terri Gentile, Debbie Riffle, and Scott Mathias.
To celebrate her life, there will be a mass followed by a reception on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
• The mass will be held at 2 pm at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 323 Collyer St, Longmont, CO 80501. (The mass will be live streamed at this link, which can be joined at 2 pm MT on August 27: https://youtube.com/live/d5raREtLVkg?feature=share)
