Marjorie Anne “Marge” Burman, 89, of Longmont, Colorado, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on October 2, 1936, in Ames, Iowa, to William and Mona Lawson, Marge outlived her beloved brother John Lawson and his wife Carol.
Marge grew up with a sharp wit, creative flair, and unshakable determination that would define her life. Examples include graduating from Iowa State University, and moving to Denver, CO the day after college graduation, and then traveling the country as a model for Max Factor.
In 1960, she met and married the love of her life, John “Jack” Burman. The couple celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage this past September, building a joyful life together centered around faith, family, and laughter.
An adventurous soul, Marge was among the first women in Longmont to own and ride a motorcycle, her signature needlepoint backpack and glittering gold helmet becoming a familiar sight around town. Not just a motorcyclist, she also took flying and hang-gliding lessons, embodying the spirit of courage and individuality she later instilled in her kids.
Marge raised four children—Kristin (Dennis), Steven (Crystal) Burman, David (Jennifer) Burman, and Bruce (Bonnie) Burman—calling them her greatest life’s work. Marge was also blessed with eight grandchildren—Taylor, Sky, Alexander, Zane, Alex, Abigail, Anne, Jack —and seven great-grandchildren. She had a gift for making everyone feel like family. Over the years many people have said they felt loved and even "adopted " by her.
Always energetic, Marge started her own successful business, Associated Printers, at the age of 54 and continued her work there until retiring at 82. A longtime member of the Longmont P.E.O Chapter FD, she was also a devoted supporter of the Mountain States Children’s Home and delighted in participating in the First Congregational Church’s Christmas Home Tour for many years.
When arthritis ended her knitting at 87, Marge taught herself watercolor painting, creating vibrant florals and landscapes that celebrated her love of nature and life. Her beautiful hand-painted cards are now cherished keepsakes of friends and loved ones alike. Several cards featured a favorite scripture, Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”—fitting words for a woman who trusted life’s path fully to God.
Marge donated her body to science; a memorial celebration will be held on November 21, 2025 at 1:00pm at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1500 9th Avenue Longmont, CO 80501.
