He married his wife of 49 years, Anna, in 1975 and they had two sons: Jake and Josh.
He was a proud Marine Reservist for 6 years. After finishing tech school in 29 Palms, California, he was stationed at Buckley Air Base. Later, he moved his family to Longmont and began what was to be a 28-year career with Storage Tech, Sun Microsystems, and Oracle.
Before his catastrophic stroke, he was an outdoorsman. Hiking, camping, climbing mountains, fly fishing, and taking beautiful photos of it all. He also loved his motorcycle and woodworking.
He began to coach the Jr's shooting team in Longmont in 1980's. When the program shut down, he moved it to the Boulder Rifle Club with a great deal of help and grace from the Rifle Club. They chose to continue funding for the purpose of teaching safety to Jr. members. Mitch ran the program for 23 years with the help from parents, coaches, and other volunteers until his stroke in 2009, at which time, Dennis Rogers took it over and runs it to this day.
After his stroke, Mitch was mostly wheelchair bound, but continued to roll all over town, making friends as he went and practically living at Ziggis on Main; playing checkers and chess with all comers. He knew every shop owner up and down Main St. and loved them all.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Accel Nursing Facility for their kindness, professionalism, and patience. They have all been a saving grace. We also wish to thank Choice Hospice, especially Christina and Daniel for their wonderful care.
Mitch was predeceased by his parents, brother Joe, half brothers Lyle and Leland, and his half-sister Jennifer.
He is survived by his wife Anna, sons Jake (Kristi) and Josh (Beth), brother Martin (Barb), half- brothers Loren and Eric, sister Sue, nephew Joe and family, as well as many cousins.
The family also wishes to thank Johnathan, Larry and Bill for all their kindness. You are all Earth Angels. Thank you also to all the friends who were able to visit Mitch and prayed for him and us as well. May God bless you all.
A Celebration Of Life for Mitch will be held on June 20th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado.
You all know how much Mitch hated formality, so please come to his Celebration Of Life dressed comfortably. Mitch hadn't owned a tie in 40 years and had holes cut in his shoes.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite charity, in Mitch's name.
