
Phyllis Ann Spaur, 90, of Johnstown, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2012 at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, following a brief illness.She was born February 1, 1922 in Illinois but moved to Colorado with her family when she was a little girl. Her parents, Howard Snedden, Sr. and Stella (Phillips) Snedden settled in Milliken where Phyllis grew up and went to school with her siblings, Howard Jr., Gladys, and Virginia.Phyllis graduated from Milliken High School in 1939, and as a young woman worked at several jobs, including as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell in the Johnstown office and for Great Western Sugar Company.In 1953 Phyllis married Delbert Spaur of Johnstown, and spent the rest of her life living and working with her husband on the Spaur family farm. She was both colorful and practical, and an unflagging helpmeet to her husband through the decades of hard work, weather, crop failures, and successful harvests that mark the life of a farm wife. In later years Phyllis and Delbert enjoyed traveling and spent many happy winter months in Maui together. She was a good cook and had a salty tongue.Phyllis's family knew her as a devoted and generous daughter, wife, sister, and aunt. Three generations of nieces and nephews will love and remember Aunt Pho y for her kindness, sense of humor, infectious laugh, and awesome green bean casserole.She was preceded in death by her brother, Howard Snedden, Jr. in April 2012; and her parents and parents-in-law. She is survived by her husband, Delbert; her sisters Gladys and Virginia, both of Greeley; her sister-in-law, Marjorie Cain of Johnstown; her brother-in-law, Harvey Spaur and wife, Paula of Wellington; and dozens of nieces and nephews.Memorial services will be at the First Lutheran Church in Longmont at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, followed by a burial service at Johnstown Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made in her name to the First Lutheran Church of Longmont.
