

Rafael “Ralph” Isada Ortiz, M.D., 84, of Longmont, died December 12, 2013 at Medical Center of the Rockies, Loveland, CO after suffering a cardiac event. He was born October 10, 1929 in the Philippines to Jose B. and Concepcion (Isada) Ortiz. He married Kathleen Shean in Orient, Iowa.
Ralph attended medical school and received his medical degrees in the Philippines. He came to the United States in 1956 where he interned at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa and completed his residency in anesthesiology in Hartford, Connecticut. Dr. Ortiz practiced for over 25 years in Des Moines, Iowa before transferring to Saginaw Michigan where he practiced until he retired. After he retired he moved to Longmont Colorado to be near family.
Dr. Ortiz was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was a loving and generous Husband, Father and friend and his family was always important to him. He volunteered for more than 10 years with the OUR Center. He also enjoyed cooking and entertaining as well as gardening and landscaping. When time allowed he liked to golf and could always be found staying abreast of current events and politics.
Survivors include his wife Kathleen of Longmont, his children; Joseph (Sandy) Ortiz of Lewisville, TX, Barbara (Jeff) Dingwall of Longmont, Rachelle Ortiz of Longmont, Andrea (Jerry Kitchen) Ortiz of Altoona, IA and five grandchildren: Drew, Summer and Christopher Ortiz, Bill and Tom Dingwall. He is further survived by his sisters Dr Manolita (Roberto) Catalan and Lutgarda (Rudolfo) DeJose of Marion, VA, Fe Marin of the Philippines, a brother Manuel (Nita) Ortiz of the Philippines, as well as a brother in law John (Joanne) Shean of Iowa and sister in law Roslyn Brecher of Florida and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Preceding Ralph in death are his parents and his son Albert Ortiz.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Longmont. Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services in Longmont.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 17 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
