Robert Michael Mahoney, 61, passed away August 23, 2016 at the Peaks Care Center following a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis, which he fought hard to win.He was born June 10, 1955 in Rochester, Pennsylvania to Robert Lee and Darlene (Kish) Mahoney. Mike graduated from Beaver Area High School and earned a BA in electrical engineering from the University of Arizona.He enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on July 24, 1979. Mike moved to Longmont following his military service and has made his home in the area since.On September 8, 1984 he married Kathryn M. Bjerke in Ayr, North Dakota.Mike spent 20 years as an engineer at Hewlett Packard. In 2000 he turned his attention to writing a book. He published High Mix “ Low Volume Manufacturing. This highly successful book has been used in teaching manufacturing strategy to many. He returned to work joining the stainless steel industry for a number of years.He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather and grandmother Stephen and Mary Kish, paternal grandmother Katherine Townsend Mahoney, father-in-law Richard Bjerke and sister-in-law Julia Bjerke.Mike is survived by his wife Kathryn Mahoney, two sons Bryan Mahoney and Matt Mahoney (girl-friend Anessa) all of Longmont, close personal friends Terry, Denny and Tiana, mother Darlene Hughes (Lester) of Beaver, PA, father Robert Mahoney (Ruth) of Canonsburg, PA, brothers Mark Mahoney (Jody) of Aurora, CO and David Mahoney (Kathy) of Austin, TX, sisters Leigh Mahoney of Austin, TX and Leslie Reese of Monaca, PA, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, mother-in-law Eleanor Bjerke, three brothers-in-law Ron Bjerke, Larry Bjerke (Sherry) and Brad Bjerke (Cheryl) and sister-in-law Pam Gohdes.The family would also like to thank TRU Community Hospice, Allegiance Home Health Care, The Peaks Care Center, and other unmentioned family and friends for their care and support of Mike.Memorial services will be held 10:30am Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. A reception will follow the memorial service at 11:30am Tuesday, held at American Legion Post 32 in Longmont.
