Robert Vincent Shaeffer of Berthoud, Colorado, relocated to Heaven and went into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, March 2, 2026. Robert passed away from this life peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He was 83.
A Life Rooted in Colorado
Robert was born in Paonia, Colorado, on March 14, 1942, to Earl and Leta (Bennett) Shaeffer. Growing up on a ranch, his life revolved around the outdoors—from horseback riding and 4-H, to competing in wrestling and football for Paonia High School. These early years instilled in him a quiet strength and a deep appreciation for the Colorado landscape.
Service to Country and Career
After graduation and attending some college, Robert enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1962 to 1966. His time in the USMC and his enduring bond with the veteran community deeply influenced his life and his decision to be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
Following his service, Robert began a career with IBM. His dedication took his family on various assignments through the 1970s—including New Jersey, North Dakota, and Virginia—before returning home to Colorado in 1977. He remained at IBM until his retirement in the 1990s.
Faith and Community
Since 1977, Robert and his family were active members of New Creation Church. His faith was a cornerstone of his character; he served faithfully with his wife in the children’s department and then as an usher for many years. Robert’s heart for others also led him on mission trips to Mexico, where he worked to build housing for the impoverished, leaving a tangible legacy of his compassion.
A Legacy of Love
Robert and his wife, Geraldine (Schroeder), shared a beautiful marriage of nearly 60 years. Married in Paonia on July 8, 1966, they were constant companions. Geraldine will miss their walks through the neighborhood, local open spaces, and mountain trails with her very best friend. They enjoyed cherished time with family and good friends.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Geraldine; his son, Shannon Troy Shaeffer and his wife, Saundra; his daughter, Shelly Yvonne Shaeffer; and his three grandchildren, Ethan Robert Brandt, Stephen Robert Shaeffer, and Natalie Grace Shaeffer. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Jean Collins Cott, and was preceded in death by his older brother, Ronald Lee Shaeffer.
