Robert W. Smith

Robert W. Smith, 78, formerly of Longmont passed away November 17, 2017 at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland.He was born October 30, 1939 in Defiance, Iowa to Murl and Viola (Newton) Smith.Bob was an honorably discharged veteran. He served in the US Army from 1962 -1964.On June 27, 1970 he married Cynthia Nielsen in Harlan, Iowa. They moved to Longmont in August of 1980 and then to Johnstown in 2004.Bob had a long career as an automotive technician. He worked for Herbert Motors and NAPA of Longmont.He was a member at several different Lutheran churches over the years. Bob was passionate about his GTO and a member of the GTO Association.Bob enjoyed camping.He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mildred Gehlsen and brother Paul Wright.Bob is survived by his wife Cindy, son Chris Smith and wife Wendy, daughter Rachel Smith, grandson Adam Smith, sister Marjorie Benge and husband John and brother Marvin Smith.At his request no service will be held. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to Children's Hospital of Colorado and sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
