Rosalie (Rosie) Ruth Atkins of Hygiene, Colorado passed away on January 1, 2018 after a long battle with dementia. She was born in Erie, Kansas on September 28, 1938 to Charles and Ruth Ford. She was the eldest of seven children.
Rosalie fell in love and married Charles Atkins in November 13, 1955. They were married in Raton, New Mexico.
Rosie and Charlie had four children and lived on a ranch in Hygiene raising their children, she also helped raise many other generations of kids. She was so excited when she took the job as Nanny for the Backup-Quinn family in Lyons. She loved Andrew and Meghan and watching them grow but again the empty nest was quickly approaching but, Rosie was soon to be a ""Grandma “and/or ""Grandma Rodie""
She loved being a grandma.... this meant more arts and crafts, painting rocks, working out in the little house, gingerbread houses, big family parties, birthday parties, picnics, flying kites, building a tug boat, a tree house and so much more!!!!!! The kids loved being at grandmas and Papa’s.
Rosie was an active leader in the cub scouts and girls scout while her children were small and after settling in the St Vrain Valley she became very active in, and a sustaining member of, the Foothills Baptist Church. It was undeniable that she had found her church family for life. Rosie found other deep interests in photography, leather craft, traveling, theater works of bible stories and most of all spending time with family and good friends. She will forever be remembered as ""Chief Purple Feather"" to many generations of kids in the area as she taught Children’s Church, Vacation Bible School, Day Camp and Sunday School for nearly 40 years. She loved to teach the bible through crafts, songs and puppets. It was very customary for Rosie to be up late into the night cutting out craft pieces for Sunday School lesson. She believed that every child should have a bible and she made sure to hand them out at Sunday School and Children's Church without fail. To this date we’re pretty sure she gave out hundreds of bibles. In her later years Rosie loved drinking Coca Cola, ice cream and rocking on the front porch with family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Frankie Janelle of Longmont, Shannon Lee (Paula) of Brighton, Shauna Mae (Pamela) of Longmont; and grandchildren Kasey, Loyd, Becca-ji, goddaughters Deanne Havens-Michaud and Krissy Keelick and honorary grandchildren Andrew and Meghan Quinn and Konner Mauck. She is survived by sisters Londa (Dale) and Rhonda, brothers Henry (Bonnie) and Herb (Mary), sisters in law Cheryl and Janice. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and great friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, brother, sister and granddaughter.
Rosie will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
