Sidney W. Dawson

Sidney W. Dawson, 93, passed away December 19, 2018 at his home in Longmont, Colorado.He was born May 4, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY to Hannah Dawson. He grew up on Shelter Island, NY. He enlisted in the Navy serving from August 1943-April 1946. He served aboard the USS Mona Island in the Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged a Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class.In 1946 he worked as a funeral director in Greenport for 5 years. Sid married the love of his life, Jean Tasker, on November 27, 1948 in Greenport. In 1952 they moved to Poughkeepsie where Sid started his career with IBM. In 1965, they moved to Boulder. He retired from IBM in 1978 and moved to Longmont in 1998.He was a member of the CENTRALongmont Presbyterian Church and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and brother, Lester Schr der.Sid is survived by two daughters Ruth Dawson in California and Deborah Derr (Clarence) in Longmont; two sons Maddren Dawson and Michael Dawson both in Longmont; brother Arvin Schr der in Lincolnton, NC; seven grandchildren: Scott Dawson (Trina), Julie Dawson, Ron Derr, Jennifer Buringa (Clayton), Christine Dawson, John Dawson and Benjamin Dawson; and four great-grandchildren: Cameron Buringa, Travis Buringa, Wyatt Derr and Cody Derr.Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 pm with a funeral service beginning at 1:30 pm Thursday, December 27, 2018 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
