Thomas J. Contreras, 77, of Longmont, died unexpectedly on September 16, 2013 at Longmont United Hospital. He was born April 18, 1936 in Johnstown, CO to Helen Romero and Octavino Contreras. On June 20, 1959 he married Margaret Marquez in Boulder, CO. She preceded him in death in 2009.
Tom moved to Colorado in 1995 from Albuquerque, NM. While living in New Mexico he worked for Greyhound prior to owning and operating Tom’s Auto Detail Shop in Albuquerque. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Survivors include his sons: Reo Contreras, Rod (Shannon) Contreras and Rico Contreras of Longmont and his daughters Joy Contreras and Vera (Robert) Gutierrez also of Longmont. He is further survived by 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, his sisters Helen Best of Longmont, Carol Gamble of Denver and Gregorita Ruiz of Longmont. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother George Contreras and his sisters Mary Young, Alice Hayslip and Hope Herman.
