Todd William Newmiller, 46, beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, passed away in Denver, Colorado, on March 17, 2020, due to metastatic colon cancer. Todd was born on November 19, 1973, in Columbus, Mississippi, to William and Gloria (Freehling) Newmiller. Todd spent his childhood traveling with his family in support of his father's career in the Air Force, a challenge that was at times difficult for this shy, introverted child. Born in Mississippi, he lived with his family in Wichita Falls, TX; Ann Arbor, MI; Colorado Springs, CO; Seattle, WA; Okinawa, Japan, and back to Colorado Springs. He attended Redeemer Lutheran School, where he was valedictorian of his 8th grade graduating class and made the All-Star Basketball Team for the district. He graduated from Liberty High School, where he was an honor student and varsity basketball player. Todd received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Media Communication from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs campus. He was an accomplished writer whose script for a short movie, Pour Me, was produced by his professor at UCCS. He loved backpacking, hiking, skiing, cooking and was a voracious reader of all genres. He especially loved Herman Melville, Joseph Conrad, and 19th Century Russian Literature.Todd dearly loved his family and was very close to his siblings. He was so proud of and so adored his sister, Tracy, and brother-in-law, Richard, who was another brother to him. Todd's close relationship with his brother, J l, is legendary. Todd remarked that the birth of his younger brother changed his life in such a positive way, he wondered if he had ever been happy prior to the birth of his little brother. The birth of his niece, Maya, was an important milestone in Todd's life. Todd spent many hours babysitting Maya and taking great joy in playing silly games with her and doting on his precious Maya. Todd was so proud of her significant accomplishments and always thoroughly enjoyed their time together. Todd was a loving son who brought the family great joy with his kindness, wisdom, sense of humor and strong moral character. Todd remained true to himself and never lost his ability to forgive and to express understanding for the human condition that prevented others from living up to the standards he held for himself. Friends extol his intellect, creativity, and kindness, affirming that knowing him made me a better person.Todd is survived by his parents, father, William (Anne Mathisen) Newmiller; mother, Gloria (Alan) Anderson; sister, Tracy (Richard) Lippard, brother, J l (Katie Orr) Newmiller; niece, Maya (Taylor Blau) Lippard, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. We leave you with one of Todd's favorite Herman Melville quotes: But even so, amid the tornad d Atlantic of my being, do I myself still forever centrally disport in mute calm; and while ponderous planets of unwaning w revolve round me, deep down and deep inland there I still bathe me in eternal mildness of joy.The family requests honoring Todd's memory by donating to the Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition (ccjrc.org). A Celebration of Todd's Life will be held at a later date.
