Verta B. Simpson

Verta was born on January 12, 1934, in Eads, Colorado, to Bernard H. and Clara S. Koch. She had a younger sister, Rita K. Koch, who was born March 10, 1938. Verta met Keith A. Simpson in junior high school and they dated throughout high school. Verta graduated from Eads High School in 1953, and then attended both Colorado State College of Education (now the University of Northern Colorado) in Greeley, Colorado, and the University of Colorado Boulder.

Verta and Keith were married in Eads at the Evangelical United Brethren Church on June 17, 1956, and they moved to Boulder, Colorado. Verta and Keith then moved to Burlington, Colorado, in the fall of 1958, after Keith graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder, to teach instrumental music and direct choirs in the schools there. In August of 1967, the family moved to Longmont, Colorado, where Keith taught instrumental music grades 5-9 in the St. Vrain Valley school district and Verta was a homemaker. She became the administrative assistant with the St. Vrain Valley Education Assoc. in 1975, and worked there until her retirement in 2000.

Verta’s greatest joy was her family. She poured her heart into raising her children and cherishing her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a special place in her heart for all of the families’ pets, especially her own dog Sami. Her legacy lives on in the traditions she built from camping to cookie baking, the values she instilled, and the family she loved so dearly.

Verta is survived by children Michael D. (Lucy), Deborah K. Stewart (David), and Steven R. (Sonja), and grandchildren Andrew Garcia (Krystle), Sean Simpson (Ali), Jaron Simpson (Chi), Alyssa Simpson, Anne Stewart, Laura Stewart, Patrick Simpson, Ryan Simpson, JJ Aulsebrook, Lily Simpson, and Tyler Simpson, and great grandchildren Sofia Simpson, Lucas Simpson, Emily Simpson, Riley Simpson, and Chloe Garcia.

Verta was preceded in death by her parents, sister, husband, and one son, Kevin A. Simpson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Verta’s memory be made to the Longmont Humane Society. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 11:00AM at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel 326 Terry St. Longmont, CO 80501.
