Bill Vielehr passed away suddenly on October 11, 2014, in Boulder. He was born in Chicago in January 1945 to Jane Kingsley Vielehr and Charles Vielehr. The family moved to Boulder soon after, and he has lived there ever since. He is a nationally-known sculptor who was encouraged to move to New York or LA but chose to live in the west to
take full advantage of an outdoor lifestyle. When not creating art, Bill could be found running rivers, fishing, and hosting happy hour at the shop. He was eloquent in describing, promoting, and defending fine art. During his career of 45 years he was commissioned to create many private, municipal, and corporate works that have garnered both artistic and public approval. He lived his life and created his art on his own terms. There is a consistent integrity in his work that shows through in
every piece. He will be remembered as a man with a passion for human kindness and no tolerance for injustice. He accepted everyone for who they were. Bill always had time for friends and family, especially his sons, grandsons, and nephews. He was a natural leader. He is survived by his wife Kitty Nicholason (son Jack); his siblings
Chuck Vielehr (Jane), Ginny Vielehr Pine (Gary), Patti Vielehr (Dan), and Bob Vielehr; sons Nathan Vielehr (Leanne) and Caylon Vielehr; grandchildren Riley and Owen Vielehr; nephews Ryan Pine (Mona), Derek Pine (Am), Brent Pine, and Josh Vielehr; and many more family members and countless friends, all of whom will truly miss the two great parties a year given by Bill and Chuck. A Memorial Party will take place on October 18, 11am - 5pm at the shop. Donations can be made in Bill’s memory to the Bouder International Film Festival, 2338 Broadway, Boulder CO 80304 or biff1.com.
