

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents John and Lillie Smith; and his daughter, Angie Vaughn. He is survived by his beloved wife of 19 years, Shirley Hurt Smith; children Nancy Hupp, Kimberly Nelson, Kenny Vaughn (Christina), and Kenny Smith Jr (Jessica); step-children Missy Krages (Dennis), Monica Hurt (Thomas), and John Hurt; an abundance of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and caregiver McKinsi Gandia.
Kenny built a career rooted in protecting and serving others. He served on the Jefferson County Police Department and continued his law enforcement career with the corrections department before retiring . His strong sense of duty and integrity earned him the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of the community he served.
Kenny was especially proud of his service to his country during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life he carried with honor and quiet strength. In his younger years, he found joy in the outdoors, spending many days hunting and fishing, he also enjoyed singing karaoke and making memories that he cherished throughout his life.
Above all, Kenny’s greatest happiness came from his family. He loved nothing more than cheering from the sidelines while watching his grandsons play ball, beaming with pride at every game and every accomplishment.
Kenny will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his dedication to serving others, and the steady, caring presence he brought to the lives of those who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday February 19th from 2-8 at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Hwy. His funeral service will be at 11:30 Friday at the funeral home, followed by burial with military honors at Evergreen Cemetery.
