Alfred is survived by his wife, Bertha Cuellar Miranda; children, Jimmy Miranda and wife Edna of Lufkin; Elizabeth (Betty) Miranda Witherspoon of Nacogdoches, granddaughter, Miranda Aleese Witherspoon Bellitto and husband Vincent of Seattle, Washington; siblings, Frances Rodriguez, Carmen Miranda, Frank Miranda, Joe Miranda, John Miranda and Marie Joslen.
Alfred Miranda was born on May 21, 1929 in Fastrill, Texas to Jose and Rose Miranda. He graduated from Diboll High School and later from Pineywood Business College.
He married Bertha Cuellar, in 1951 while he was stationed at Sam Houston Army hospital as a medic technician. After moving to Diboll, Texas, Alfred began working for Temple Industries and moved through several satisfying positions for over 30 years. His friends and family remember him as ‘Big Al’, the life of the party.
Alfred was accomplished at social networking and was recognized wherever he went. He was a member of the Lufkin Evening Lions and a member of the First United Methodist church. He was a generous individual who loved making people happy and who was passionate about keeping up with the latest news while drinking a cup of coffee, working in the yard, playing Bingo and spending time in Shreveport and Livingston. He also loved helping his wife with their mission work in Progresso, Mexico during the winter months. The truckloads of material he transported to Mexico included school supplies, building materials and donations he would masterfully acquire through church friends, former business associates, and by selling homemade tamales to generous contributors.
In order to escape the Texas heat, Colorado was the chosen destination during the summer. This is where he enjoyed cutting and stripping the bark off small Aspen trees his wife would use to carve walking sticks. The rest of the time at their favorite RV resorts was spent drinking coffee, enjoying cookouts and driving 50 miles through the nearest mountain pass to celebrate wedding anniversaries with new and old friends.
He unselfishly volunteered with disaster relief, school organizations, Diboll Day, and recently, the Senior Center of Lufkin. He always looked forward to the holidays and spending time socializing at his favorite places especially when he was accompanied by his only granddaughter, Miranda.
