Arnold H. Montes Sr.

Mass of the Christian Burial for Arnold H. Montes, Sr. 86, of Lufkin, will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Francis O’Dowd, Father Gavin Vaverek, and Father Raymundo Garcia, M.S., celebrants. Interment will follow in the Moral Cemetery in Nacogdoches.

Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with the family receiving friends and loved ones from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Montes was born January 14, 1930 in Nacogdoches, Texas, the son of the late Mary (Pena) and Joseph Stephen Montes. He passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016 at PineCrest Retirement Community.

Mr. Montes was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a good provider for his family. He enjoyed making hot tamales and dancing every Saturday with his wife before her passing. He was a very funny guy and loved to tell stories. Mr. Montes was retired from Southland Paper Mill, having worked there for 46 years. He was the last remaining charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Lufkin Council #3404. He was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Arnold Jr. and Ann Montes, Greg and Shannon Montes and Monte and Charlotte Montes, all of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Monty Stafford and Rhonda and John David Slack, all of Lufkin; grandchildren, Chad and Samie Montes, Cory Montes, Hilari and Emily Montes, Jonathan and Patricia Baker, Shane and Karen Stafford, Joshua and Amber Slack, Jared Slack and Luke Montes; great-grandchildren, Grace and Vivian Montes, Chloe and Mason Stafford, and Haylee and Jacob Slack; special friend and caregiver, Edna Hayes; and a number of other family members.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Montes was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Tommie Montes in 2013; 3 brothers; and 4 sisters.

Pallbearers will be Chad Montes, Cory Montes, Joshua Slack, Jared Slack, Shane Stafford, Hilari and Emily Montes, and Luke Montes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Grace Montes, Chloe Stafford, Vivian Montes, Mason Stafford, Haylee Slack and Jacob Slack
