

B.D. proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, retiring after 21 years of dedicated service. His career began in 1954 when he graduated from Aviation Ordnanceman Class "A" School. He served as an Aviation Ordnanceman, steadily advancing in responsibility and demonstrating superior skills both as an Ordnanceman and as a leader. He was promoted to Chief Petty Officer, United States Navy, and his performance with the Navy Occupational Task Analysis Program was described as outstanding. His contributions were highly valued, and his departure was met with deep respect from his superiors.
Following his military career, he worked as a truck driver for many years. His love for travel and working on cars was a constant throughout his life. Above all, he was a devoted family man, cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Yvonne Marshall, a published author; daughters, Rhonda Chapman and husband Bruce, and Joy Brunner; grandchildren, Darci Holloway and husband Doug, Madison Potgieter and husband Jaco, Brad Chapman and his wife Emily, and Jenson Brunner; great-grandchildren, Piper Holloway, Maci Holloway, Jace Potgieter, Emersyn Potgieter, and Lillian Chapman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Corey Wood; and his great-granddaughter, Bailey Heald.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Gipson Funeral Home in Lufkin, TX. A funeral service will follow on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 2:00 PM, also at Gipson Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in Ben Walker Family Cemetery in Huntington, TX.
Serving as pallbearers are Bruce Chapman, Brad Chapman, Jaco Potgieter, Jenson Brunner, Doug Holloway, and Jace Potgieter.
B.D.'s legacy of love, service, and devotion will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
