Clara Lois Hancock

Clara Lois (Day) Hancock, 82, of Lufkin, was born February 22, 1930 in Lufkin, Texas, the daughter of the late Hettie (Yount) and Clarence Day. She passed away Thursday, May 24, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Hancock was born in Lufkin and attended school in Timpson. She married M. D. Hancock and moved back to Angelina County. She was retired from Lufkin State School as a nurses' aid. She loved her family and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, collecting angels and owls, working with flowers, and was a great cook. Mrs. Hancock was a member of Harmony Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Doil and Sible Hancock of Lufkin; daughter, Barbara O'Quinn of Lufkin; grandchildren, Roy David O'Quinn, Tammy Lois Nelson and Angela Hancock; great-grandchildren, Abigail Clare Eddins, Andrew Patrick Foster, Katie Hancock and Matthew Hancock; sisters, Frances Kauffman and Estelle Collins; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence Allen and Dorothy Day and Gary Dean and Ruth Day; sister-in-law, Sharon Day; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members. She will be missed by her dog, Spanky.

Mrs. Hancock was preceded in death by her parents; husband, M. D. Hancock; brother, David Lynn Day; son-in-law, David Eugene O'Quinn; and brothers-in-law, Lynn Kauffman and Dotria Collins.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to friends and caregivers, Bernice Allen and Kathey Allen.

Pallbearers will be Michael Eddins, Caleb Nelson, James Day, Tony Pool, John David Eddins and Roy David O'Quinn.

Services for Mrs. Hancock will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, May 27, 2012 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend C. A. Day officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
