Dewey Edward Burrous, 91, of Lufkin, was born June 8, 1920 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of the late Clippie Mae (Boles) and Clarence Edward Burrous. He passed away Monday, March 5, 2012 in a local nursing facility.
Mr. Burrous was retired from St. Regis Paper Company, following 37 years of employment as a paper maker. He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening. Mr. Burrous proudly served his country with the United States Army Air Force as Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and a charter member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Louise Sanders Burrous; daughters, Rita Don Burrous Bowers and Cyndy Burrous Hall and husband Tim; grandchildren, Kelly and Jeff Corey, Jessica and Bobby Knight, Andrea and Travis Brown and Alyson Hall of Chicago; great-grandchildren, Dalton Windham, Kayla, Cameron and Brandon Corey and Jacob and Brandon Knight; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Loyce Fenley, Jewel Kirkland, Gaynell Thompson, Jim Sanders, and Jake and Shirlene Sanders.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Burrous was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, H. B. and Mellie Sanders; son-in-law, Anthony "Andy" D. Bowers; brother, Oscar Burrous; sisters, Francis Mae Allen and Deller Ray Modisette.
Pallbearers were Sandy Kirkland, Kirk Kirkland, W. C. Allen, Jr., Bobby Frank Allen, Donald Oscar Burrous, Keith Jones, Tony Sanders, and Stephen Sanders.
Honorary pallbearers will be Cesley Higgens, Denton McCoy, David Bowers, Charles Modisette, Dr. Don Sanders, Wayne Ellis, and Donnie Mathews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Burrous' memory may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1505 S. John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904; Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904; or to the Whitehouse Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 1283, Lufkin, Texas 75902.

Services for Mr. Burrous will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2012 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Cary Modisett and Bro. Robert Faulk officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
