Ernest Dewey McCreary

Ernest McCreary, 94, of Tatum, was born August 6, 1915 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of the late Ida Bell (Martin) and Alford Forrest McCreary. He passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in a Shreveport hospital.

Mr. McCreary was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather. He was a retired logger. He loved spending time with his kids, especially the babies. He enjoyed watching westerns and rodeos. He hobbied as a mechanic, fixing cars and tinkering with them.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Dewey and Sandy McCreary of Liberty City; brothers, Raymond McCreary and Alton "Red" McCreary, both of Lufkin; grandchildren, Helen Gibson, Jill McCreary, Holly Robbins, Eric Hutchison, Kelly Hutchison, Steve Hutchison, Tom Hutchison, Julie Gilcrest and Jana Hutchison, 18 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Mr. McCreary was preceded in death by his wife, Addie Lee McCreary; daughter, Ernestine Hutchison; and grandson, Dennis Hutchison.

Serving as pallbearers are K. J. Hutchison, Glenn Hutchison, Trevor Hutchison, Dustin Hutchison, Kelly Hutchison and Steve Hutchison.

Graveside services for Mr. McCreary will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010 in the Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Danny Winsti officiating.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home.
