Ersell Rogers, of Nacogdoches, passed away on March 27, 2021 at the age of 84 years old. He was born on October 3, 1936 on a farm during the Great Depression in rural East Texas. Ersell was the oldest of eight children born to the late Marion Cornelius Rogers (2007) and Lorene Norsworthy Rogers (2006).
In addition to his parents, Ersell was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Denise Rogers (2020), his sons, Dale Ersell Rogers (2017) and David Marsell Rogers (2005), his grandson, Cody Rogers (2002), and his brothers, Norman Rogers (2016), Robert Rogers (2016) and Junior Rogers (1971).
Ersell loved to stay busy. He had an entrepreneurial spirit that spanned his entire life. He left home at an early age to join the Navy, where he was later joined by his brother Junior. Ersell had a career in construction for many years, where he worked with his sons. He very much enjoyed being his own boss. He also loved to fish, garden, farm and raise livestock. Even though Ersell lacked a formal education, he could build, create and repair almost anything. He was an extraordinary person with a caring heart.
Ersell met and married his wife, Irene, while serving in the military. They began their family soon after, having five children: Travis, Darlene, David, Diane and Dale. Ersell and Irene remained married for over six decades, until his recent passing. Ersell was a dutiful husband, providing care to Irene in the later years of their marriage when she could not care for herself.
Ersell is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anne "Irene" Fitzgerald Rogers and their two oldest children, Travis Dersell Rogers and Zelda "Darlene" Molandes. In addition, his brother Herman Lee Rogers and three sisters, Emma Womack, Ima Jean Lowery and Nelda Jean Hooks. As well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
