

Services for Ila Wilma (Brock) Thornton, 98, of Apple Springs, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches County.
Mrs. Thornton was born April 29, 1914 in Nacogdoches County, Texas, the daughter of the late Katherine (Tucker) and Melvin Walker Brock. She passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 at her residence.
Mrs. Thornton was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was very active in her church, the Apple Springs Baptist Church, and was a “3 times a weeker.” She was a very quiet person but was always there to help. Ms. Ila was very active in her community and was always at every funeral and carried food to the families. She enjoyed gardening and had fresh tomatoes every summer.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Cathie and Mike Blackaller of League City and Linda and Dennis Rahm of Cypress; grandchildren, Jonathan Riley and wife Tiffany of Waco and Benjamin Riley of Houston; great-grandson, Anthony Michael Riley of Waco; numerous nieces and nephews, of which Geraldine Ruby and Bobbie Hassell were very instrumental in her later years with daily activities.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her husband, James Mulder Thornton; brothers, Melvin “Son” and John; and sisters, Macie and Gracie.
Pallbearers will be Bob Ruby, Richard McCary, Tommy Hurst, Jonathan Riley, Benjamin Riley and Ryan Hassell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lester Bazar and Clifford Brock.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at Gipson Funeral Home.
