Jane was born on September 1, 1931 in Lufkin, Texas to M. M. and Mary (Pearson) Fontenot. She passed away on Monday, April 29, 2019 in Katy, Texas.
She graduated from Lufkin High School in 1948 and attended Stephen F. Austin State University, receiving a B. S. Degree in Home Economics. She was a member of Alpha Chi National Honor Society and Fidele Social Club (now Alpha Chi Omega).
Her professional career included service in the White Oak Schools as dietitian, teaching in the Brazosport schools and St. Cyprian’s Episcopal School in Lufkin as assistant principal of the kindergarten. She loved teaching 5-year olds and felt she had found her calling. Through the years, she has enjoyed visiting with her former students and learning of their accomplishments.
Jane married James H. Horn on July 2, 1960. Two children were born to this union – James Stacy and Luanne. Her greatest joy was taking care of her family. The love she possessed for her husband and her children and their families knew no bounds, and she will continue to bless us with cherished memories.
Jane will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and adoring grandmother (lovingly called Na Na).
She was loved by many and those who knew her will always have memories of her laughter, wisdom and her thoughtfulness. These are the gifts that are ours to keep.
Her parents preceded her in death; also, her sister, Lucile Weeks and brother-in-law, Robert Weeks.
Jane is survived by her son, James Stacy Horn and wife Brenda of Houston; daughter, Luanne Humphrey and husband Bruce of Katy; and granddaughters, Kensley Reed Humphrey and Riley Lauren Humphrey, both of Katy.
Jane was a former member of First United Methodist Church of Lufkin, where she served on may committees. She and Jim are charter members of Christ Congregational Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jane’s memory may be made to to Christ Congregational Church, 105 Saddle Creek, Lufkin, TX 75904; or the charity of your choice.
