Mamie Lois Conner

Services for Mamie Lois Conner, of Huntington, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Wes Matchett and Reverend Tim Simons officiating. Interment will follow in the Huntington Cemetery.

Mrs. Conner was born July 5, 1929 in Kaufman County, the daughter of the late Viola Mae (Honea) and Oscar Puryear. At the age of 86, on June 13, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, she went to be with her Lord and Savior.

Mrs. Conner was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was retired from Lufkin State School as a medication aid. She was a long time member of Ora Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Joe Edward Conner; daughter, Billie Barkley; 4 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren, including special buddy Caleb; brothers, Robert Puryear and Gene Puryear; sisters, Lita Herron and Gloria Metcalf; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Conner was preceded in death by her husband, Sherrill Conner on February 8, 1974; brothers, James Puryear, Grady Puryear, Jake Puryear and Harris Puryear; and sister, Laventa Layton.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
