Margie Marie Rhodes

Services for Margie Rhodes, 93, of Lufkin, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Jackson Colwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Zavalla Cemetery.

Mrs. Rhodes was born June 18, 1924 in White City, Texas, the daughter of the late Lovie (Roberts) and John T. Roberts. She passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 in a Huntington nursing facility.

Mrs. Rhodes was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. Her favorite color was red, and she loved bling. She enjoyed going to Wal-Mart and spending many hours there. She loved what-nots, trinkets and playing board games. She was the WaHoo champion of the world and was very competitive. She also enjoyed gardening, working with flowers and potted plants. She had a “green thumb”.

Survivors include her son, Jessie Rhodes, Jr. of Zavalla; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Charles Craven of Zavalla; grandchildren, Jessica Michelle Quick of Manchester, Iowa, Mark Rhodes, Melissa Bryan and Emily Meisel, all of Lufkin, Julie Phillips of Spring, David Rhodes and Misty Hughes, both of Zavalla; 14 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; her dearly loved sister-in-law, Dellene Roberts of Katy; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Mrs. Rhodes was preceded in death by her husband, J. H. “Mutt” Rhodes; grandson, Dustin Rhodes; great-grandson, Kaden Rhodes; parents; brothers, Arlis Roberts and Hollis Roberts; daughter-in-law, Delaine Rhodes; sister, Dora Lee Harris; brother-in-law, Ezra Harris; and her beloved Chihuahua, Taffy.

Pallbearers will be Mark Rhodes, David Rhodes, Micah Rhodes, Jacob Phillips, Richard Meisel, and Kevin Roberts.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
